A look at the 2021 football recruiting class (so far)
Over the fourth of July weekend, the Oregon Ducks football program secured its sixth commitment of the 2021 football recruiting class.
Texas three-star defensive end/outside linebacker Terrell Tilmon joined the flock, indicating that Oregon separated itself from the pack for a specific reason.
“They were the only school to recruit my family,” he said.
With Tilmon in the fold, Oregon has the nation’s No. 24 recruiting class and the No. 2 collection of talent in the Pac-12 Conference.
Here’s a detailed look at the class so far:
4* LB Keith Brown (Lebanon, Oregon)
Lebanon linebacker Keith Brown blew up on the camp circuit in January 2019 with a stellar showing at the Adidas All-American Bowl underclassmen combine.
Since that time, his stock has continued to rise.
The Adidas All-American Bowl selection is one of the nation’s top linebackers and is locked on to a future at Oregon, playing alongside five-star linebackers Noah Sewell and Justin Flowe, who signed with the Ducks as part of the 2020 recruiting class.
Top scholarship offers: Arizona, California, Michigan, Tennessee, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington
4* RB Seven McGee (Rochester, New York)
Dynamic running back/wide receiver Seven McGee has moved back and forth from California and New York, which forced him to miss his entire junior season due to transfer eligibility issues.
Prior to that, McGee had risen to the nation’s No. 2 running back and No. 33 overall prospect on 247Sports.
To re-establish his bordeline five-star status, McGee needs to simply get back on the field and make sure he’s checking all of the boxes off the field.
A De’Anthony Thomas-like impact offensive weapon, McGee attended Oregon’s “Saturday Night Live” camp shortly after the conclusion of his freshman season and was one of the top standouts among several of the nation’s top soon-to-be seniors.
He’s got the potential to be special.
Top scholarship offers: Arizona State, Nebraska, Ole Miss, Tennessee, USC
3* C Jackson Light (Draper, Utah)
Interior lineman Jackson Light may prove to be the “sleeper” of the class.
The 6-foot-3, 275-pound offensive lineman holds single-digit offers, but after a series of camp showings early this spring he established himself as one of the nation’s top centers and earned an invitation to the Under Armour All-American Game.
Light is all-in on his commitment to Oregon and is considered as solidly committed to the Ducks as a recruit can get.
Top scholarship offers: BYU, Missouri, Nebraska, Utah, Washington State
4* QB Ty Thompson (Gilbert, Arizona)
Oregon was mid-unofficial visit hosting Ty Thompson when the NCAA declared an emergency dead period in response to the coronavirus pandemic.
Still, he was allowed to finish his visit.
And it proved to be all Oregon needed to secure his commitment.
Thompson – 6-foot-4, 200 pounds – needs to add some weight, but was one of the nation’s most impressive quarterbacks on the camp circuit early this spring before it was shut down.
He has a chance to be a special dual-threat athlete as his body develops in offensive coordinator Joe Moorhead’s quarterback-friendly system.
Top scholarship offers: Iowa, LSU, Miami (Fla.), Michigan State, Utah, Wisconsin
3* DE Terrell Tilmon (Arlington, Texas)
Texas edge rusher Terrell Tilmon is the slowest-rated pledge in Oregon’s class so far, but he shows plenty of promise.
The 6-foot-4, 210-pound athlete has an intriguing frame with speed and flexibility that could make him a high-end pass-rusher if he develops.
Several college football programs saw similar promise, as Tilmon had accumulated nearly 20 offers.
Although the development could take time, Tilmon’s upside is certainly worth the investment for Oregon.
Top scholarship offers: Arizona, Arizona State, Baylor, Colorado, Kansas State, Minnesota, Texas Tech, Utah
4* ATH/WR Kyron Ware-Hudson (Santa Ana, California)
Few prospects in the state of California saw their stock rise more than Kyron Ware-Hudson early this spring.
Already labeled one of the the most physical pass-catchers in the country, Ware-Hudson earned WR/TE MVP honors of Rivals’ camp in March and continued to be a standout at every stop.
He isn’t a burner, but Ware-Hudson has strong hands and is physical at the catch point – in the air or in stride – and should develop into a productive collegiate receiver.
More to come as I see them my friends and feel free to bring new adds to my attention.
