Ducks Defensive Line play. Oregon Ducks coach Dan Lanning retained a majority of his defensive starters from the 2025 season after losing only two senior starters and one junior from the entire team. The key word here is STARTERS and we were deep at the backup/rotational/development areas. This is where we had a flock (pun intended) leave the Ducks. So strengthen we will, as we prepare to build off our 13 and 2 2025 season and make a deep run into the College Football Playoffs for the 2026 season.
The Oregon Ducks’ defensive line (DL) room is anchored by the return of key starters, including A’Mauri Washington and Bear Alexander just to mention a few.
Despite significant transfer portal losses as mentioned, the room is being restocked with transfers like D’Antre Robinson, Jerome Simmons, and Derek Brown to provide depth behind an elite starting four.
Key 2026 Defensive Line Personnel & Additions:
- Returning Stars: A’Mauri Washington, Bear Alexander (Projected NFL talent).
- Edge Rushers: Matayo Uiagalelei, Teitum Tuioti, and Masier Wyatt (Pass rush specialist).
- Transfers/Newcomers: D’Antre Robinson (Florida/UNC), Jerome Simmons (ULM), Derek Brown(Howard), and Tony Cumberland (Freshman).
- Depth Players: Aydin Breland, Matthew Johnson, and My’Keil Gardner.
- Transfer Exodus: The room saw significant turnover with several departures, including Ashton Porter, Terrance Green, and Tionne Gray.
- Depth Focus: While the starters are strong, the focus for spring 2026 is building reliable depth behind them.
- Coaching: Tony Tuioti continues to lead the group.
On the Edge besides Seniors Teitum Tuioti and Matayo Uiagalelei
Depth and Development
- Nasir Wyatt (SO): Expected to expand beyond his pass-rush specialist role into a full-time starter or primary reserve at strong-side linebacker.
- Elijah Rushing(SO): A former five-star recruit poised for a significantly larger role in the 2026 rotation.
- Torrence Williams(JR): A veteran rotational player providing needed experience to the second unit.
Elite Newcomers
Coach Dan Lanning signed a top-tier class of edge rushers to replenish the room’s long-term outlook:
- Anthony “Tank” Jones(TFR): A five-star recruit from Alabama and the No. 19 overall player in the 2026 class; he is expected to compete for immediate playing time.
- Prince Tavizon(TFR): A four-star recruit who reclassified from the 2027 class to join the Ducks early.
- Dutch Horisk(TFR): A three-star prospect with elite size (6-foot-3, 240 lbs) viewed as a key developmental piece.
- Bleu Dantzler(FR): A rotational player who saw limited action in 2025 and remains in the depth mix
It’s said Defense wins championships and while that’s partly true, I’ll argue this is mostly true with the caveat you must have an offense that can score points. That being said, let’s start looking at the Duck offense starting with our next “ROOM REVIEW” 2026 as we focus on the Offensive Line. Until then…Go Ducks!!!
